Weeding in the back-garden - bloody ivy! - when the stream of sirens going past on the main road made me decide to try and take a look (which means bracing myself by hanging off a 1cm wide brick ledge and the top of the fence, so it's sort a of bounce, look, bounce, look process), and yes, they're all stopping about 200m up the road, and in fact there's a cop van in the bus-stop four doors up. Too far up to make out details, even for my neighbour who's tall enough to see over, but we're guessing from the time of day and the location - by a bus-stop - that it was probably a school-kid vs car.

They cleared it quick enough that it probably wasn't too serious, but that makes three road accidents on a 200m stretch of road in the last 20 days.

1:15AM crash into my back garden wall, just what I needed.

Driver had apparently done a runner before I got around to check. Front of the car was trashed, and engine was extremely not happy. Wall looks okay but the streetlight will never be the same again. Fire engine turned up first, and decided to stay on scene until the police arrived, which took 45 minutes. Apparently they had to come all the way from Sheppey - 20 miles away by road. Where the Medway cops were I have no idea. One of them took a good look inside and reported not only a strong scent of booze, but pills everywhere.

It's now 3:30AM and the recovery vehicle has just left. Pretty much guaranteed they'll start on the streetlight with an angle-grinder the moment I get to sleep

Again?!?

Screeech! Bang!

Ah, someone's just crashed outside again...

Deceptive downhill bend and a greasy road. Fortunately they always end up on the opposite side (touch wood)*. This time he took out about a metre of wall/gate pillar for the house opposite and one up from me, and about 1.5m of fencing on the electricity substation that's directly opposite. And he's completely flattened the green metal box that everyone's phone on that side of the street is wired to. Fortunately no one hurt this tiime.

Guess I'll have people working opposite for half the week. I do love the sound of concrete saws in the morning....**

* This is the main road I back onto rather than my street address. We're also elevated several feet above street level, so reasonably safe from anyone ending up in our back gardens.

** Not to mention I've got back ache and rushing upstairs to look out of the window appears to have been contraindicated

I've finally talked to my new neighbour, they only moved-in in October....

But as he says, they work in London and they're never around during the week, at least in daylight. He was putting their rubbish out at the same time as me, so I took the chance to say hello. I initially thought Italian from the accent, and he physically looks like a couple of Italian guys I used to work with, but Polish apparently. It's the usual story of lived in London and moved out to find somewhere they could afford. He was asking about the neighbourhood, so it sounds like they really haven't talked to anyone else in depth.

Maybe I'll get to talk to his wife before winter sets in ;)
