1:15AM crash into my back garden wall, just what I needed.

Driver had apparently done a runner before I got around to check. Front of the car was trashed, and engine was extremely not happy. Wall looks okay but the streetlight will never be the same again. Fire engine turned up first, and decided to stay on scene until the police arrived, which took 45 minutes. Apparently they had to come all the way from Sheppey - 20 miles away by road. Where the Medway cops were I have no idea. One of them took a good look inside and reported not only a strong scent of booze, but pills everywhere.

It's now 3:30AM and the recovery vehicle has just left. Pretty much guaranteed they'll start on the streetlight with an angle-grinder the moment I get to sleep

According to my neighbour, who slept through it, Highways didn't start on the lamp post until 8:30AM, and didn't actually take it down until about noon, which explains why it was there when I briefly surfaced at 11AM, but not when I woke up again two hours later. If there were angle grinders, I slept through them.

We had another pair of vans looking at the lamppost (they cut it off about waist height) this morning. I was out, but my neighbour said they did about 5 minutes of work, and then sat around doing nothing for a couple of hours!

The slow reply to a car crash is disturbing. I hope the angle grinders have finished their task, and you have only a day of annoying installation to look forward to.

I'm likely to be away for the installation, so that's probably not a problem. My neighbour is going to try and get them to put the new post directly behind the large tree in his garden (same as the the old one), which means we get a reasonable amount of diffuse light into the gardens, and bedrooms, but not an annoying amount of direct light.
