Text from my GP's surgery: Our phone lines aren't currently working. We are waiting for the engineers to call

There's going to be a lot of people saying: "So how are you texting me?"

That first text was reassuringly followed by: The engineers can't get here until noon tomorrow.

And of course this is the first time in months I've actually needed to phone them.

Isn't that a contradiction in terms?

Under the circumstances, I would say that if they're hoping for the engineers to call then they're going to have to wait.

Oh, it's nothing urgent/important I need to ring them about. I got a text on Monday saying "You haven't had a blood pressure check in 5 years, can you ring and book one*". I was half-thinking of doing it today, but would probably have left it until tomorrow anyway. Friday will work fine instead.

* Which incidentally says they're happy having people back in the surgery for trivial stuff** again.

** Though that's probably "trivial stuff we can bill the government for" given how surgery finances work.
