I haven't slept well for two nights in a row, so ended up sleeping late this morning.

I'm not quite certain if it happened as I woke up, or I woke up because it happened, but I woke up to something going 'pop!' in the lower half of my pelvis, and a distinct sensation of something shifting rearward. Not certain if it was the SI-joint or the coccyx, but I think something definitely subluxed (or possibly un-subluxed). SI-joint is more normally a diagonal sliding sensation, this was definitely a front-to-back sensation, so it's either a whole new way for the SI to misbehave, or it's the coccyx.

It's also disconcerting to wake up to!

I now have mild pain radiating into the left buttock and thigh, worse on standing, so something's definitely tweaked the sciatic nerve.

Oh, joy!

I think my hypermobility flare-up has calmed down slightly, but it's still randomly rotating between body parts, and I keep randomly dropping off to sleep. And going to bed at unreasonably early times like midnight. So it's clearly fatiguing me even if I can keep pain levels down to a minimum by limiting physical activity*.

* Where 'physical activity' includes unreasonably athletic activities such as sitting up** - there was a reason I used to call my blog Flat Out.

** Though thankfully the sitting up is only some of the time. Standing is today's challenging activity - I threw lunch together in three minutes (two minute microwave rice, tin of mackerel, dollop of salsa) and that was still about a minute too long.

I helped calm my c-spine down by ordering some double-sided velcro-tape off Amazon and spending a couple of hours replacing the velcro holding the padding onto a couple of my collars, so that the padding will actually be on the collar when I need to wear it, rather than lying in the back of some cupboard. Which is why I now know there are 11 separate pieces of velcro on my Miami J collar!

I was thinking back yesterday and I think that this may be the first spontaneous*** flare up in a decade, which isn't too bad, and is good evidence for adequate analgesia making a huge difference in pain management as it's about a decade ago I started using buprenorphine and I was getting flare-ups about once a year before that.

*** There was a non-spontaneous one when my normal hypermobility pain and my acute pancreatitis pain decided to party in my lumbar spine.

It's rare enough that I remember dreams, and disability tends to be a bit inconsistent in them. But last night/this morning was the first time I've dreamed of being hypermobile. Of course being a dream it couldn't just simply be 'Oh, you're bendy', no, I had managed to dislocate both left shoulder and right knee. Which is a slightly odd combination as while my left shoulder is dodgy, it's the right one that subluxes, and my right knee is one of the few joints I rarely have issues with.

I suspect the trigger for the dream was writing down notes for my wheelchair assessment next week. I don't recall the 'plot' per se of the dream, but whatever had caused the dislocations, I ended up being treated by itinerant Americans who for some reason had taken over a British hospital. It's logic, Jim, but not as we know it.

I woke up this morning with my left hip screaming in pain. I'm not sure whether it's a consequence of sailing or Athenian pavements, but left hip is genuinely not happy and my right hip isn't a ball of fun either. It took butrans, 2x400mg Ibuprofen, and 2x 500mg paracetamol to get me standing with weight on my left leg (to put it in perspective, the ibuprofen and paracetamol are the prescriptions I didn't use post gall-bladder surgery as I didn't need them). I decided my body was clearly calling for an easy day and settled for a couple of hours people-watching with a beer in hand at a pavement cafe about 50m from the hotel (even that needed me to climb out of the chair to get it across the road as the island the cafe is on on doesn't have kerb-cuts).

I'm back at the hotel now avoiding the heat and even on the fifth or sixth floor above a six-lane road I can still hear the cicadas singing. The plan is to head out in a little while to find something to eat, but even that's going to be limited to the local area. Hopefully I'll be up to more tomorrow.
