The Government They Deserve

 There is a line, I think by Heinlein (seldom my favourite political thinker) that seems somewhat appropriate today: the advantage of democracy is that people get the government they deserve.

But dammit, that ignores the millions of us who'll be getting a government we don't deserve.

52% of my fellow voters are idiots, at best.

I always took it as cynical, that no matter how bad your government is, you're the ones who voted for it, but then I know the intersection of my politics and Heinlein's is pretty much the null set.
