Someone was kind enough to mention a couple of my posts in one of their own and recommend people follow me, which was nice. Then someone else who, to the best of my knowledge, I don't know from Adam (or Eve), pops up and says  'Please don't promote davidgillon as anti-racist. He's been racist to me and he's been warned by the mods on at least one disability com for his racism.'

Absolutely no idea where that came from, it's certainly not true. But if anyone sees it repeated anywhere, can they let me know so I can defend myself.  The only time someone ever accused me of racism in a forum, it was a roleplaying one, they weren't a mod, and my crime was advocating multiculturalism!

So angry I'm shaking.

I'm sorry that happened -- the accusation was such an unexpected thing that I had to read it three times to be sure I wasn't misreading something. It certainly didn't coincide with my own experiences interacting with you (though, that obviously doesn't mean much when another person is sharing their own experience).

I just wish I knew where that accusation came from. Are they confusing me with someone else?

I'm wondering the same thing -- mixing people up is really, really easy, so that explanation seems likely.

And I'm inclined to suspect troll rather than misunderstanding; perhaps based around a bad-faith reading of the role-playing scenario.

It's almost certainly not the role-playing stuff, as that would take some serious hunting down - yahoo group for an obscure game ('2300') and probably at least a decade ago now. I've no idea who the person making the accusation is, but a couple of people have said they know them and are perplexed, so mistaken identity seems most likely.

Ironically the post that seemed to provoke them was me linking to #DisabilityTooWhite, and reminding people it's nothing new to criticise the origins of the disability movement as 'white men in wheelchairs', which of course is absolutely the kind of thing I'd be doing if I was a racist *Headdesk*

It reminds me of a twitter spat of a couple of years ago, in which Sam Ambreen accused Mary Beard of racism: details here . In that, when Helen Lewis asked for details, Ambreen told her to Google it and stop wasting her time -- and then a couple of hours later admitted she'd been confused and the person she'd been thinking about wasn't Mary Beard! But that still didn't stop her supporters complaining.
