Post-op Update

davidgillonI haven't really mentioned this in the past few days, so a quick update if anyone is wondering.
I was annoyingly sensible over the three-day weekend and didn't go out to Sweeps Festival as crowds and new wounds seemed like a bad combination. On the downside being stuck in the house while all my friends were out drinking and listening to music was pretty depressing. Mostly I've spent my time doing what I'd normally be doing, but rather more of it curled up on the bed than usual.
I'm actually getting very little pain, I pretty much have to be doing something to aggravate things to feel it at all. I'd say I barely need painkillers, but the butrans patch slapped on my shoulder is a pretty serious painkiller in its own right, so I barely need extra painkillers may be closer to the truth.
Wound-wise the big(ger) hole in my navel is where the discomfort is, when there is any, but that seems to be healing nicely, as are two of the three smaller ones, the third one has leaked blood onto the dressings a couple of times, but seems visually intact when I look, I'll get the wound clinic to examine it tomorrow when I have my follow-up appointment.
And that's about it. It's blowing a gale here today, which managed to blow over my patio table earlier (it's glass topped, so I'm impressed it survived), I managed to go out, fetch in the patio umbrella that had blown it over (even though folded), and right the table, which weighs a ton, without any major complaints, so that's a pretty good sign. Tomorrow I'll take the car out for the first time when I drive across to the Wound Clinic - I don't see there being any issues.
Oh, and the first pizza in four and a half months was very much appreciated ;) I can haz chiz naow!

Date: 2015-05-05 11:13 pm (UTC)Navel wounds can take forever to heal because there's so little blood supply. I neglected to vigorously roll the developing scar to prevent keloids, and I was sorry a year later when my navel started punching me in the belly.

Date: 2015-05-06 01:29 am (UTC)I got this from my PT after a shoulder decompression surgery that left a 3in scar. Squeeze out a vitamin E cap, then massage vigorously (I.e, mf ouch), roll across & up and down to break up scar so there's no adhesions to the underlying tissue. I started around 3 weeks post-op, you have plenty of time. Scar was still pink but completely closed.

(Verdict of the clinic was the main wound is doing fine, though still pretty thoroughly scabbed over, she was surprised I was still so bruised - may be a bendy thing. The top centre minor wound isn't quite as happy, small (3x1mm) area of dead white cells, so a different dressing on to debride that and 'see you in a week')
