One of the landline handsets disappeared a few months ago. I looked everywhere for it, raked sticks back and forth under beds in case it had been kicked underneath and so on, not a sign of the thing. So eventually I gave up looking.

This morning I was changing the bed, tugged the sheet a bit hard and the mattress slid almost a foot off the bottom of the bed. Out pops the missing handset from underneath it.

I can sort of see how it happened, there was an ottoman at the end of the bed until recently, which was exactly the same height as the bed minus the mattress, the handset must have been on there and somehow got swept up as I tucked the sheet in, and gradually gotten pushed further and further in each time I changed the bedding. Likely there was always a handful of sheet between my hand and the phone.

For those wondering why I didn't notice the sudden Princess and the Cell Phone scenario, it was at the wrong end of the bed for that, and probably lying between my feet all that time I was wondering where the hell it had gotten to.

Congrats!

It's a lovely bonus to find something after you've accepted its disappearance.

But why do you still have a landline?
