... a government of the rich, for the rich, by the Rishi.

*Headdesk*

I do expect Sunak to be a bit more responsible than Truss in getting the markets behind whatever he does. But he's still a small government libertarian at heart, so another round of austerity cuts over the winter is likely to be painful. (Though even the Tories may realise that cutting the NHS is electoral suicide, well Tories who aren't Liz Truss and Therese Coffey, anyway).

OTOH they only have 26 months left in power and Rishi's not likely to be able to win people over by personality vs policies in the way that Boris could, and Mordaunt might have been able to. Rishi may well be a good electoral match-up for Starmer, who similarly doesn't seem great at winning over voters by force of personality, which will allow Labour to make it an election about policies, and about the performance of the Tories in government.

I'm hoping that Rishi as PM will mean even greater cooperation from No 10 with the Partygate inquiry, because if it goes the right way we could see Boris suspended as an MP for lying to the House while PM, and if that's for more than 10 working days, it could will lead to a recall petition (which is likely one of the reasons Boris was persuaded not to run - a successful recall petition on the PM would destroy the Tories).
