Eeek! Almost shocking incident.
Jul. 18th, 2021 08:54 pmI finally cut the lawn this afternoon. I definitely left it for most of May, then came down with that bug mid June. I can't quite recall if it got a cut at the end of May or not. So it's either been six weeks since it was mowed, or ten weeks. And it was looking distinctly shaggy.
It's also been stinking hot this weekend - I was still sitting outside reading at 10:30PM yesterday.
So I left it til 6pm-ish to cut it, and I was still melting, even with teeshirt off (not a pretty sight), which may have affected what came next, which was looking down and realising I'd just run the mower over the power-cord (normally I'd have moved the cord before getting to that bit of the garden, I forgot). Apparently the grass was so thick the cord had just bedded down below the level the blade cut at - it wasn't even marked.
Never done that before, but if I was a cat I'd be down a life! (There's an RCD power breaker on the power cord, and another on the house supply, so I might have gotten away with it, but better not to find out!)
Eeek!

Date: 2021-07-18 11:10 pm (UTC)Holy shit ... this has always struck me as the Achilles heel of electric mowers.
If powerchairs/power assists can run off relatively small LiFePo4 batteries, why can't yard tools?

The cable for our lawn strimmer is bright red, presumably to avoid the same situation, and I still came awfully close to strimming the cable the last but one time I used the strimmer.
