Phone call: "Hi, this is the wheelchair department, can we deliver a wheelchair tomorrow?'

Me:'Um. er - just hang on a minute while I get up to speed, I haven't heard anything back from Wheelchair Services since requesting an assessment."

Them: 'Oh, they've just decided to do their own thing again, have they?'

I guess it's better than the outright refusal to see me at the first attempt, but I was sort of hoping for something that would look at my actual needs (and size and shape!). I'm presuming what I'm getting is low-end cheapest-of-the-cheap, and as they don't know what my needs are, chances of meeting them are fairly slim!

Online friends have reported similar experiences, one even predicted the brand (Invacare Action 3) - which looks an awful lot like the hire chair

[personal profile] kaberett hoped I hadn't paid for when we met at Worldcon.

Provoked into writing again by following exchange on Twitter with a supposed charity:

 @<Redacted>Diversity Remember to see the person and NOT the disability. #disabilityconfident
 @WTBDavidG
@RedactedDiversity Remember to see the person, AND the disability, or you deny a huge part of us. That's #disabilityconfident

 @<Redacted>Diversity  @WTBDavidG of course that goes without saying.

Then why say the exact opposite?

None So Blind as Those Who Refuse to See Disability

And by the time I'd finished writing it another charity had tweeted exactly the same thing.
