Deliverance!
Mar. 20th, 2020 01:43 pmAsda came through with my delivery.
I haven't checked it precisely, but I don't think it's missing much, though there are some substitutions. Most importantly, I have bread and I have coffee, both of which were getting a little low. Though I did kick myself earlier in the week after two days of whinging about rationing coffee when I remembered there's about 150 teabags in the cupboard and I will happily drink tea,
So with that and my repeat prescription I'm now set to immure myself for a fortnight to three weeks.
The driver kept his distance, which I was completely in favour of. I can empty the totes if he drops them on my doorstep, (didn't know they were called that 'til this week), but as he commented, that has to be tougher on the elderly, even if it is theoretically for their own good. Of course the sheer amount of up and down involved in emptying them and then transferring stuff to the kitchen means my hips are not happy with me and most of it - everything that didn't need to go straight in the freezer - is still sitting in on the floor in the hall. That's the kind of problem I'm happy to have, and to deal with later.

Date: 2020-03-20 02:14 pm (UTC)Both the major grocery stores here shut down their home deliveries.
Woolworths is reopening theirs, but only if you can convince them that you are sick enough/Disabled enough. Oh, and the room for making a case? Is a single line text field.
they've reserved the right to ask for photos of
disabled parking permit
seniors card
disability pension card
companion card
Fortunately I managed to do a food order from a hippy place that has NONE of my staples but some things I can eat, so I hopefully can scrape by til Woolworths gets back to me as "approved"

Date: 2020-03-20 02:42 pm (UTC)Fortunately my sister kicked me on Sunday to put an order in, so I got the earliest slot I could, which was Friday. By Monday people were talking about earliest slots being three weeks away.
At least one is talking about putting in an elderly/disabled prioritisation system from Monday, but given many disabled people don't have any form of documentation to prove they're disabled, we're slightly dubious it will work.
The other initiative is early opening for disabled/elderly, but the first day of that yesterday was pretty shambolic: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/19/sainsburys-dedicated-shopping-hour-for-vulnerable-people-chaotic-and-crowded

Date: 2020-03-21 06:01 am (UTC)you need a document - parking permit; seniors card; pension card; disability pension card; companion card - obviously not every disabled person has these
very crowded, long queues, nowhere to sit
lots of Disabled people can't get there that early, especially if they rely on a carer to get them up/dressed/out the door
supermarket staff have been prohibiting carers from coming in with elderly/Disabled people
young Disabled people who've gone have reported a lot of aggro
"you shouldn't be here" from the elderly people
Glad to hear it!
