It's Sweep's Festival, so I spent the day indulging in sun, beer, music - klezmer (1), Anglo-Swedish rock (2), and then French nautical punk (3) - and then back to friends for a curry and a beer.

Why am I surprised there’s klezmer in Rochester?

Because normally there isn't?

But yesterday I walked into the Castle Gardens, and there was klezmer.

1290 is a long time ago! I have no idea how strong the local Jewish community is, but there is a synagogue.

And folk bands tend to be cultural packrats at the best of times.
