Belated Happy New Year!

My New Years Eve plans went slightly askew thanks to a (very) minor stomach bug, so I was in bed by 22:30 rather than in the pub with my sister and brother in law.
OTOH I saw the New Year in with whisky, chocolate, and by meeting my writing target on the short story I've been reworking over the holidays (6kwords almost completely rewritten to 9.5kwords, then edited back down to 7.5kwords). This is the one that nearly sold to Kaleidescope a couple of years ago, and I think the changes make it a much stronger story. What was a random medical event in the old version is now attempted murder, elaborating th original plot, and the conflict between protagonist and antagonist is better defined ('Her job should have been mine'). I had to drop the old title ('Titanium Witch') as the bit of story that tied into was axed, but came up with a much better one surprisingly quickly, 'The Art of Breathing' ties into both the protagonist being a vent dependent quad, and the attempts to kill her by sabotaging that. I'll have another editing pass or two, but otherwise it's pretty much there.
The weather here continues ridiculously mild. We had a couple of inches of snow and ice at the same time as the rest of the country, which was gone two days later, and Storm Eleanor howled through last night, but we're back to being able to wander around outside without needing gloves on, which is unheard of for this time of year.
I'm still in Durham, but I've reached the point where getting back home is looking better and better, yet still not wanting to say goodbye to everyone. Not sure independence vs nesting instinct ever goes away.
Happy New Year!
