I don't need assistance for familiar journeys or when I'm with someone, which is most of them, but the last time I was doing a journey that was neither of those (Oxford last month) I excitedly tried booking it along with my ticket (also Virgin trains) and there was no sign of it. I couldn't even get platform staff to talk to me instead of each other! I hope you have better luck. :)
