There's a discussion on the FB Naval Wargaming Page about the new version of the USN professional reading list. This is mostly a mix of leadership stuff and naval history, but usually references a few fictional works that are felt to be relevant. A couple of the comments were "Hey, Starship Troopers is back, great."

Ah, people, you have read the book? An armed mob wanting to exclude the votes of those they disagree with from the franchise just stormed Congress, and you want your armed forces reading books advocating giving the vote only to the men with the guns?

This is true. The conversation was full of people saying things like "Well, I was talking to the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy and he said the only thing on the list should be <>". I think the one actually praising the return of Heinlein is a retired Navy Captain, and he got thoroughly smacked down for implying I'd never read Heinlein and only ever seen the film. Disagree with me and I'll be happy to debate with you, imply I haven't done the research and the gloves come off. Telling him he was supporting a book that advocates for a one party state was possibly below the belt, even if totally accurate.
