The problem is insurance works on post codes, if they see a lot of accidents happening in your post code (or a lot of car thefts, vandalism etc), they'll increase your insurance quote. Similarly for house insurance if there are lots of break-ins, or a flooding risk, and ditto if you want life insurance and your local area has a lower life expectancy or higher rates for various diseases.
In this case it's not so much the people I live near as that I have the main road in and out of town at the bottom of my garden, and worse, a dangerous bend about 100m up the road after long straight sections that encourage people to push their speed when it isn't busy.
