 Holding the Line

We all went out to the local pub on New Year's Eve, but they weren't making a big thing of it and instead were sticking with their normal Saturday night is bingo night. So we played (5 cards for line then house, then a sixth with bigger prize money). I won a line. My sister won a line. I won a line. My sister won the house. My mother won a house. My sister won a line. We didn't get anything on the big card, but won six out of ten prizes on the standard cards between us. Not huge money, but it paid for the night's entertainment. (A week later we won nothing, but the table diagonally opposite won everything).

I went home when my mother did, though my sister and brother-in-law were staying, mostly because if I'd stayed and had much more to drink I'd have regretted it the next day. As my mother went straight to bed, I ended up doing the same, which made it the first time I've seen the New Year in from my bed in years. Of course there may have been a small tumbler of something involved.

Heel of the Dog

We were back at my sister's on New Year's Day, for a buffet-style meal of various nibbles, then just sat around for the rest of the day. Mid-evening, I went to sit on the sofa, between my mother on one side and Poppy the dog sprawled out on the other. Unfortunately as I sat, the sofa caught the back of my knees, both my feet flipped out forwards and I dropped onto the sofa, and Poppy, from waist height. I managed to land with Poppy's hind paw neatly aligned along my left SI joint. She yelped and went running to her mum, while I was horrified, but thought I was fine. An hour later, she's fine, and I'm clearly not. I ended up having to go home, take some painkillers and go to bed. A week later and I was still having issues with standing for more than a few minutes, though it seems to have settled down now (left SI joint is one of the ones I've historically had issues with).
