4 Guys, a Yank and a Dog
Oct. 4th, 2018 03:30 pmI did a pub quiz on Tuesday night, these happen every other week, apart from during the summer, and despite trying to do them regularly since February, this is only the second one I've gotten to. It's been that kind of year.
We normally expect to do quite well at these things, but this wasn't our night and we lost* to a team on the next table, which was a multi-national group of about 10 20-somethings, who had split into two teams, the winning one calling themselves 4 Guys and a Yank. The only people on their table I spoke to were the two women closest to me (both non-brits), and that was because the instant I wheeled up to the table my friends had nabbed, the dog one of them had brought instantly decided my wheelchair's wheel was her new best friend. I actually nearly wheeled into her, because she was a dark brindle, and on the shadows of a dark red carpet shaded by tables she almost seemed to become a shadow herself. She was pretty lowslung, a mutt on a chunky dachshund body plan, and looked adult, but her owner explained that she was only 5 months old, and that it was the first time she'd ever been in a pub, and it was a very crowded pub. Evidently she'd decided the best way to deal with this scary new place was to find something safe to cuddle up to, and while I wouldn't normally describe a wheelchair wheel as cuddleable, it seemed to suit her. Cute, even if I didn't dare move for the entire evening.
* We didn't even make the top three, so clearly lost to several other teams as well
