Beer and gin: how British can you be?
I vaguely remember a great podcast exploring the moral panic around gin in the 18th & 19th centuries, but my well-medicated brain can't pin it down.

I think it even cropped up in my history lessons when I was at school. IIRC our textbook even had a picture of Hogarth's 'Gin Lane' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer_Street_and_Gin_Lane
