Well bugger....
My sister tested positive for Covid yesterday. But only after having Sunday lunch with my 82yo, clinically extremely vulnerable mother. *headdesk*
Fortunately my mother is testing negative, at least for now.
I've just spoken to Andrea and she describes it as feeling like flu and tonsilitis combined. As she's herself clinically extremely vulnerable she's in line for one of the antibody/antiviral treatments, so we'll see how that goes.

Here's hoping for good outcomes.

Given all your run-around with false-positive tests before Christmas, I'll note that my sister did actually test herself before sitting down to lunch with my mother, which came back negative. It wasn't until she tested herself again in the evening that she got a positive result. If ever there was a time not to get a false-negative!

It may not have been a false negative - Omicron in particular rises quite fast from "not enough virus to register on the rapid test" to "whoops you've got plague", and for the general population (my weird travails aside) the correlation between negative test and not being infectious for the next few hours is really strong.
So there's hope that your sister was genuinely uninfectious at lunchtime, even with a positive test that evening.
Learning about the speed with which one can go from negative to positive test has shifted me from testing first thing in the morning on the days I have plans, to just before I'm leaving my house to do the risky thing (mostly hockey, but occasional other meetings with people face to face).
