The weather today is mizzle

On the train home. About two thirds of the way from Durham to London, and I don't think I've been able to see further than 200m from the train at any point. If anything the mist is getting thicker.

My mother summed it up when she saw me off as "a really miserable, mizzly day".

Good word, mizzle (= mist+drizzle")

Weather words are the best.

Something I've never experienced, but often admired when listening to Radio Canada International*: ice pellets.

*RIP. shortwave saved my sanity when I spent 18 months in bed, pre-internet.

Huh. I'd heard that word before, but hadn't put the etymology together. It seems so obvious in retrospect. It's a good word.

To coin a word for today, just above freezing, light mist, 100% cloud cover:

Grismal
