Bah, this sinus bug is getting up my nose!

Second sinus bug of the year, and while I don't feel particularly ill - except for the intermittent waves of slight dizziness - it's just enough constantly there to be irritating.

Perhaps the most disconcerting part yesterday was that it had left me clogged up enough I was almost completely deaf, but only in my left ear. I was making my dinner last night and spent several minutes trying to figure out what was making the noise over on my right, which turned out to be the microwave on my left. *headdesk*

Do not tempt fate, for she is not at all subtle...

Me, Friday: Hey, today's three weeks since my second shot. Hello, full immunity! (Or as close as I'm likely to get.)

Me, Saturday morning: "I'm so tired I feel sick." Followed by a sudden lunge into the bathroom as I realise I'm not just feeling sick....

On the good side, it's not Covid, on the bad side, definitely another sinus/middle ear bug. (The feeling of things sloshing around my sinuses was quite distinct).

Spending six hours on the bathroom floor on Saturday was not part of my plan for the weekend - I was so sensitive to moving my head I didn't dare try to make it to the bedroom. On the plus side I did manage to catch up on my sleep.

I'm better today, but still having to be cautious about moving my head quickly, and looking down is completely out.

Meh...

It's been a week:

Monday: Flu jab

Tuesday: I feel knackered, probably just the jab

Wednesday: Ooh shit, head go spinny....

Thursday: Yup, sinus bug, excuse me while I spend a second day spontaneously sleeping

Friday: Okay, -ish. Still trying not to look down, but managed to get out to pick up my repeat prescription, and refill the petrol tank in the car, which was down in the last eighth of the dial - that's the first time since May or June IIRC!

I'm not certain whether it's just an anti-serendipitous coincidence*, or whether the flu jab distracted my immune system enough for the sinus bug to take hold (and I do normally get at least one per winter). But I still think getting it was worthwhile, just in case.

This bloody cold....

I'm not sure quite when it started, but I mentioned it in a post on the 15th of August, so it's now into its second month. Annoyingly it comes and goes, there are days when I have minimal symptoms, but then it pops back up. It went into hyperdrive a week ago and since then the thing I seem to be doing most is sleep. I've had the full gamut of symptoms - blocked nose, runny nose, sneezing fits, upset stomach, headache, a lovely couple of days where I was significantly deaf, and today a brief patch of vertigo - and annoyingly it's rotating through them randomly, so I have no idea what I'm going to be dealing with in a few hours, never mind tomorrow. It's not actually too bad in terms of feeling ill, it's just fatiguing and irritating.

If this is how my immune system is performing at the minute, then I'm definitely not going to let my coronavirus guard down! (I had my monthly ONS coronavirus test about the 30th, so chances of it being Covid are minimal).

Failure to Launch.

So I was supposed to be on the 11:24 to St. Pancras, en route back North to see my folks. In fact I was sound asleep, having decided about 9:30 that the fact the room was spinning around me as I was lying in the bath really didn't augur well for a five hour train journey. In fact it was auguring for a practical and public demonstration of one of the messier forms of gyromancy.

So back to bed I went and slept through to 5:30. I'm hoping it's just the first sinus bug of winter, as those I get regularly and can deal with (ones that mess with my inner-ear are fortunately less common), though the screaming neckache was new. Hopefully that was just my body trying to splint my head in one place and limit nauseating inputs to the inner ear, but the combination of headache, nausea and a stiff neck did have me hurriedly checking for any rashes... (None found, so probably safe to say it's not meningitis).

The room isn't spinning any more (at least as long as I lie still), for which I'm profoundly grateful, but it feels like I'm headed for a sinus headache, so next up is nuking my sinuses with menthol vapour.

And of course I still need to get up north at some point, though not until the sinuses are settled, I think.
