This bloody cold....

I'm not sure quite when it started, but I mentioned it in a post on the 15th of August, so it's now into its second month. Annoyingly it comes and goes, there are days when I have minimal symptoms, but then it pops back up. It went into hyperdrive a week ago and since then the thing I seem to be doing most is sleep. I've had the full gamut of symptoms - blocked nose, runny nose, sneezing fits, upset stomach, headache, a lovely couple of days where I was significantly deaf, and today a brief patch of vertigo - and annoyingly it's rotating through them randomly, so I have no idea what I'm going to be dealing with in a few hours, never mind tomorrow. It's not actually too bad in terms of feeling ill, it's just fatiguing and irritating.

If this is how my immune system is performing at the minute, then I'm definitely not going to let my coronavirus guard down! (I had my monthly ONS coronavirus test about the 30th, so chances of it being Covid are minimal).

comments

I've come to the conclusion I don't so much have a cold as a boomerang.
It's gone!
Back again...
It's gone!
Back again...
Repeat until bored now

comments

Bye-Bye Cold, Hello Cold.

I seem to have finally, after 12 days, kicked the cold I've been labouring under*. I don't have a lot of energy as yet, but I did at least manage to avert cabin fever and get out of the house on Saturday, for longer than just taking something to the bin. That was just a trip to Asda, but considering I haven't shopped since about the 10th of December (admittedly I was away for four weeks of that) it was desperately needed. Deciding just to go to Asda, rather than doing it after my normal Saturday lunch in town was very well judged. By the time I pulled the car back onto the drive I was a bear of such little brain I couldn't actually figure out how to unload it until I made myself stop and do it one bag at a time.

But it's nice to have a choice of food in the house again! Though I really need to make another trip to cover the things I forgot, catastrophically that includes the tonic water! I'm down to my last 1l bottle.

Unfortunately I' ve done this just in time for Tuesday's forecast of snow across the country....
* Or maybe not, just had a sneezing fit.

comments

Weird...

Midnight Saturday, feeling fine. 00:05 Sunday, massive sneezing fit (definitely double figures), instant heavy cold. Spent Sunday alternately piling more quilts on the bed, and throwing off every layer I could manage (when I could muster the energy). And just for fun, the only position I could find to breathe easily through the night (propped in the corner of the bed) threw out my right hip, which is normally the good one. Cue hopping around cursing (breathlessly) at 5AM. Much the same Monday night and into Monday morning, then about midday the whole thing vanished. Both starting and stopping were like someone flicked a switch. Weirdest cold I've ever had.

I did manage to make myself a hot toddy at one point, but I was so out of it I completely forgot the basis is supposed to be coffee, not whisky. Whoops :)

Fingers crossed I've now ticked off the 'winter cold' for this year!

comments

Pass the Black and Decker....

I've suddenly developed a stinking cold (which may be why I was distinctly off for the back half of last week), the kind that feels like my head is about to explode because of blocked up sinuses, yet sinuses which are simultaneously running continuously. Couldn't they just pick one? Couldn't they have got this out of the way before the weather started perking up? Grr!

I'll be curled in the corner with a book, hot lemon, and a hot toddy....

comments
