FTR (and this is probably a bit late), I kept my full toolkit for chair repairs in my black box when flying to the US and back again a few months ago (so they came with me to gate then went into the hold) and this was absolutely fine. And then, of course, I didn't have to use any of them, but again, that's something I'm okay with!
