One of the big pluses of a wheelchair is it presents all sorts of tubing to attach things to. Large carabiners (even the lower-strength key-only ones) work well to snap on to bar under knees or holding up armrest. The key ring is threaded through the 'biner. Can't be lost, and it's immediately evident if it's not there!
