Since Covid mostly I lean out of my bedroom window - directly above the front door - if I've been using the computer in the spare room, and I'd not normally open the door at 11pm without checking, but I'd lost track of time and assumed it was my neighbour - I'd been speaking to his wife earlier to warn her I'd be away and him knocking on the door to confirm dates wouldn't be unusual.

By the time I was halfway down the stairs I could see he had something electronic in his hand so assumed delivery guy (distorting glass, so you can't see clearly), but it actually turned out to be a cop. Talking to my other neighbour she'd been much more cautious about answering at that time of night.
