There's not a lot of contact with the UK system (everybody seems to do the same), but there is a little. The stuff you order comes in plastic delivery crates, almost identical to stackable storage crates, and they knock on your door while stacking them up outside. So they're grabbing empty crates on one side as you empty them on the other. I've gone to paying 40p extra to have everything bagged within the crates, which is much faster to empty - and doesn't kill my back/shoulders nearly as much, but the system for hooking the bags to the crates is fiddly and the drivers keep leaning in to help. OTOH there is a place on the order for special delivery requirements, so they could potentially do it your way.
OTOH as soon as this started pretty much all the parcel delivery companies, including the Royal Mail, went to leaving the parcel on your doorstep and knocking/ringing the bell as they walk away. I think I've taken in about one parcel for my neighbours since this started, where it was normally 1 or 2 a month.
