Whether he thinks he was there or not, "The Brits were still in charge" re Pakistan in the '80s is pretty shockingly ignorant for someone elbowing his way into a foreign policy role. Independence was in 1947, by the late '80s there'd been 3 Indo-Pakistani wars and the US was seriously concerned about the Pakistani nuclear programme and its connections to Iran.

Either you know this stuff, or you aren't fit for a foreign policy role, and you certainly aren't fit for a seat on the NSC.
