The wraparound bit helps secure the cushioned part to the metal structure - it's a two-layer foam structure which then zips into a cover that's mesh at the front, with velcro attachments at the back, plus the wraparound that goes over and under and velcroes to itself. It's also got a handle built in. No gel strip, but I'm finding it very comfortable.
